THE START OF A NEW CHAPTER – YR 12 & UNI

So, we made it. The start of year 12 (or the end of it for some people reading this) Somehow we made it through the friend drama, the tests, the detentions, the year meetings and the late nights, and now we are here. The start of the end of our high school lives.

These past years have taught me a lot. I’m one of the youngest out of my friends, but they all say I’m the ‘wise one’ and good at giving advice. I didn’t just come out of the womb like this, events in my life shaped me into the person I am today. School was a big part of that. I think it’s important for us to remember the skills we were taught in school rather than the content we learned. Think about it, the basic human behaviours were taught at school, we were taught how to read and write, how to make friends, how to communicate with people, how to meet deadlines, how to deal with stress and heaps of other things.

And honestly it seems so surreal that we have made it here. Looking back on my life everything feels like a hazy memory that was leading me to this year. I’m not naïve. I know that there will be more tests, the most important tests of our lives. We are going to get stressed, we are going to have more fights, I’m sure there’s going to be many more detentions, there is going to be hundreds of late nights and a lot more year meetings as well. But there will also be hundreds more memories we make together, tons more friends and new connections, these next 5 years are going to be the best years of our lives. So when we are struggling through year 12, stressed out of our heads we need to sit back and think of the bigger picture. It’s not the start of the end, it’s the start of the beginning. This year is only one year in our 90 year lives, focus on the end goal and remember to keep your head above the water. The shore isn’t too far away now.

Until next time
